Nirvana, the state in which the soul is freed from the pains and worrying of the world, it is here in the high peaks of the Himalayan Mountains many have come to seek such an experience. With many outsiders either reaching the peaks mentally or physically, the mountains are theirs. Surrendering themselves to this land thousands have found what they are looking for. It can be where dreams come true or dreams are dreamt.
Lord Buddha himself found who he was meant to be here within these regions leading several followers to the foothills of the Himalayas. Here in Kathmandu, beautifully constructed Monasteries and Stupas color the city as Monks meditate and chant, seeking nirvana.
The Himalayas is also the abode of Lord Shiva, said to be meditating in the mountains as the snow caps cool the great temper that is asleep within him.
The famous ancient Shiva temple Pashupatinath is a sacred temple where Hindus bring offerings of coconuts, flowers and fruit. The colourful religious prayers and offerings can be seen from across the river as the daily activities take place.
As restaurants jam rock music and the streets are busy with shoppers, Kathmandu is a hiker’s and yogi’s rest stop for a little play.
